This FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting focuses on areas of the accounting industry which would allow for transition into the financial services and other industries.
The industry sectors that may become available after graduation include tax agents, accounts payable and accounts receivable officers, payroll service providers, and employees performing a range of accounting tasks for organizations in a range of industries.
Individuals in these roles apply solutions to a range of often complex problems and are able to analyze and evaluate information from a variety of sources. They apply the initiative to plan, coordinate, and evaluate their own work and provide guidance to others within defined guidelines.

Entry to this course is restricted to those who meet the following requirements:
- Successfully completed the FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set; or
- Successfully completed the FNS40615 Certificate IV in Accounting or equivalent; or
- Successfully completed the FNS40215 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or equivalent
- Successfully completing our enrolment interview, this interview assesses:
- Your overall ability to successfully complete the course
- You having attained a successful completion of Year 12 in Australia, or an equivalent qualification, Please note: Note: Mature age students without year 12 qualification may demonstrate their suitability through relevant work experience
- You being over 18 years of age
- You having the necessary pre-requisites Accounting qualifications for the course
- Your ability to satisfactorily complete our Language, Literacy and Numerously assessment
- If learners do not meet the English and LLN requirements, learners will be asked to take further Language, literacy and numeracy training e.g. Foundation skill programs.
- Your achievement of basic computing skills and MS Office skills (MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint) .
- Those assessed of not having these skills will be referred to take basic computer skills course before the commencement of the course.
Each student will undergo:
- An introduction process explaining the units of competency and the training and assessment program to be conducted by Oscar Academy.
- A review of possible alternative elective units, from the range of units provided by Oscar Academy. The units of competency to be included in a student’s training program will be determined by discussions with the student and a representative of Oscar Academy.
- An induction into Oscar Academy (as the RTO) and training program
Applicants will require access to a personal computer and the internet to undertake the necessary research to complete this course

Students are required to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI) prior to commencing their course. The USI provides students with the ability to obtain a complete record of their Vocational Education and Training records from a single online source.
Oscar Academy is not permitted to issue a Diploma or Statement of Attainment to a student who does not have a USI unless they fall under the USI exemptions. You can obtain a USI from www.usi.gov.au or Oscar Academy can obtain it on your behalf once you complete and Application for USI which will be provided to you with your enrolment form.
If you are an offshore international student studying outside of Australia then you are exempt from having a Unique Student Identifier: www.usi.gov.au/pages/exemptions.aspx
While this qualification is 5 x 11 weeks terms with one week between all terms except the last break where there is a two-week break. This amounts to a total duration of 60 weeks including holidays, the actual course duration will be determined by any Recognition of Prior Learning or any Credit Transfer derived from any vocational qualifications previously attained for which credit is available
This course is delivered face to face in the classroom for two and a half days per week, these currently being scheduled as:
- Wednesday from 12.45 pm to 5.00 pm with a single 15min afternoon tea break, and
- Thursday and Friday from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, with 2 x 15min tea breaks one in the afternoon and one in the Morning, and a 30 min lunch break
In addition to the 1100 hours the student is in class, they are expected expend another 275 hours (averaging 5 hours per week) on self-paced learning and assessment completion.
Both 150 hours of in-class time and 125 hours of out of class time is allocated to assessment with the remanding 950 hours of in-class time and 150 hours of out of class time allocated to learning activities.
Thus, the course requirement is:
- 950 in-class hours and 150 (1100 hours) out of class hours for learning, and
- 150 in-class hours and 125 (275 hours) for out of class assessment, being a total of
- 1375 hours for training and assessment
Applicants will require access to a personal computer and the internet to undertake the necessary research to complete this course.
The course consists of 6 Core Units of competency and 5 Elective units, these 11 units of competency have been arranged and are delivered as per the table below.

Assessment is structured throughout the course. If students are unable to achieve competency, additional support is provided through mentoring and access to re-assessment as outline in our policies and procedures.
Assessment requires achievement across all tasks to demonstrate competence and includes:

- Projects/Case Studies
- Practical Demonstrations/Observations
Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Financial Services Training Package Companion Volume Implementation Guide or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements.
Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service for a fee or other reward must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the TPB education requirements for registration.
Other conditions apply, including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent registration should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.
Information about our training and assessment, policies, and procedures are included in the student handbook and should be read by the student, prior to enrolment into the course in addition to the Student Prospectus which is also located at www.oscaracademy.edu.au. These documents contain important information about your training course, fees and charges including our refund policy.
This qualification can be achieved through a Recognition of Prior Learning process. A Recognition of Prior Learning process is where you provide evidence of your skills and knowledge against a checklist of requirements that we provide you with.
This checklist of evidence will include
- documentary form such as letters, reports, certificates and other paperwork from Employers and Clients specifically confirming your knowledge and skills,
- photographic and video evidence showing that you have the skills and knowledge contained in the FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting
- an interview between our Recognition of Prior Learning Assessor, your employer, and potentially you.
Depending upon the results of the evidence submission, you may be required to provide more evidence of competency, you may need to arrange for your RPL assessor to visit you at work, and the RPL assessor may need to talk to the people who have provided you with the evidence.
If you do not have the skills or knowledge to meet the needs of the Recognition of Prior Learning program you will not be found competent and will not attain the qualification. Oscar Academy does provide “Gap Training”.
This qualification is nationally recognized and can only be delivered by a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that complies with the governing standards of quality control and quality training and assessment.
When you have demonstrated that you have all the above skills and knowledge, either through assessment or through a Recognition of Prior Learning Process an will be issued to you.
Should you elect to depart from the training and assessment program before you have demonstrated all the required skills and knowledge, a Statement of Attainment will be issued to you for those units in which you have demonstrated competency.
All training and assessment are conducted in English.
Should the assessment be required in another language, we suggest that you contact us and we will advise if we can accommodate your language needs and at what additional costs.
Re-assessment is available on appeal; see further details in the appeal process section. There is no charge for re-assessment.
We will assist you where we can, however, should your needs for support or assistance exceed our skills, we will refer you to a suitable organisation to assist you further, this may be a TAFE local to you or our workplace.
Interested applicants for the course will contact Oscar Academy through either telephone or by email, following this contact interested applicants will receive:
- The Course Information Sheet detailing the course content, fees, and study requirements
- The Student Handbook which will detail information about Oscar Academy, detailed information about the Students Rights and Obligations
- The Enrolment Agreement contains information about the course, a summary of the Students Rights and Obligations, and also forms the binding agreement between Oscar Academy and the Student.
Committed applicants will return to Oscar Academy the completed Enrolment Agreement, provide signed off the acceptance of the Student Handbook, and be willing to make the initial payment.
Applicants will undergo an enrolment interview where their provided documentation is reviewed, including proof of Identification, and undergo the Language and Literacy Indicator assessment.
Applicants will have their application evaluated and if accepted, applicants will be termed students.
The Language and Literacy Indicator Assessment is intended to provide Oscar Academy with information on the applicant’s English language skills. To be accepted into the course the student must satisfactorily complete all the tasks required of them in the assessment.
Oscar Academy can provide limited support to those students who are accepted into the course, this is limited to assistance with Vocabulary, and word definitions.
Applicants who are not successful with the Language and Literacy Indicator assessment will be referred to their local TAFE or another provider of English Language support that is convenient to their home or work.
Oscar Academy’s trainer is available via email and telephone during normal business hours throughout the week. Should there be another way we can assist you with ensuring that you maximize your chances of completing the course through us changing something or accommodating your needs please call our Administration Staff.
Students are allowed a maximum of two (2) reassessment attempts and will be supported by their Trainer/Assessors
Oscar Academy is flexible in the format and timing of learning and assessment activities to ensure that we provide every opportunity for students to demonstrate their skills and abilities. Should you need support or assistance beyond our skills we will refer you to a suitable organization to assist you further.
Oscar Academy offers support to all students with their learning needs. We can tailor the training and assessment program to assist people with learning issues and, to a more limited degree, personal issues.
Due to the requirements of maintaining a safe learning environment, Oscar Academy reserves the right to withdraw any student(s) on the grounds of safety.
Our Student manual details our complaints and appeal procedure, our discipline policy, and our access and equity policy, including the contact for any Access and Equity issues.
Students are required to provide to following equipment and resources to undertake the course:
- Modern broadband-connected computer
- Software as required to connect to the internet
- An active email address to receive learning and assessment material
- Printer and scanner
- Stationary, including pens and paper to undertake the course
There is a cost for RPL submissions, fees are charged per unit of competency. RPL applications are assessed at a rate of $120 per hour, with the maximum fee being $480 per unit. All RPL assessment Fees are GST exempt.
- A non-refundable application fee of $250 is required at time of application
- A non-refundable material fee of $750, which covers all text books, handouts, notes and other printed material provided to the student.
- The tuition fee for this course is $7,500. This consists of 11 payments of $681.82, these are due before the first class of each new unit of competency.
The first payment required at enrolment consists of:
- Application Fee of $250
- Material Fee of $750
- Tuition fee of $681.82
Total: first payment $1,681.82
Next and subsequent payments are $681.82, due prior to the commencement of the next unit of competency. Please note, that Oscar Academy cannot accept tuition fees in advance in excess of $1500, and thus cannot accept tuition fees more than a week in advance of a unit commencement (with the exception of the first unit).
There are no refunds if the student seeks to cancel their enrolment within two weeks of the proposed course commencement. The subsequent installments are due prior to the commencement of each unit of competency.
If the student departs from the course during a particular unit of competency, there is no refund. If the student departs from the course during a unit of competency, they are NOT obligated for any future course payments.
Once payment has been made, there are no refunds, students who choose to depart the course before completion of the unit of study are not eligible for a refund.
Fees can be paid by cash, credit card, EFTPOS, or EFT.
As stated before, we do not offer a refund for any payments made, except as noted above.
In cases of extreme hardship application in writing can be made to the CEO to vary these terms.
All Students should note that lost statements of attainment or Diplomas can be replaced, the fee for this is $55 including GST and will require the student to advise their name and other suitable personal details to allow us to confirm their identity.
After achieving the FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting, graduates are able to continue onto the FNS50217 Diploma of Accounting
